G’day, Mike and Ebony here! Welcome to Black Snake Productions. We are a wildlife education group dedicated to snake safety awareness and conservation of Australia’s amazing wildlife through fun and interactive education.
Black Snake Productions was founded in 2006 after many years of Mike travelling around Australia teaching wildlife education and seeing firsthand habitats and species disappearing. He saw a need for a more hands-on approach to conservation. With Black Snake Productions we have a platform to fulfil a passion for wildlife conservation that has always driven us to work with the amazing animals found throughout Australia.
Now our private zoo is home to almost 300 native animals allowing for wildlife diversity in the presentations few can match. We also focus on some unique breeding programs of some of Australia’s vanishing wildlife such as the cute Brush-tailed bettongs, long-legged Bush stone-curlews, magical Masked owls, noisy Growling grass frogs, and Broad-headed snakes.
Our goal is to bring these amazing animals to you, share our passion for Australian wildlife, and raise awareness of the plight of so many of them. We live in the lucky country and have some of the most diverse and unique flora and fauna found anywhere in the world. Through Black Snake Productions, you will get to meet some of these amazing animals up close!
G’day, my name is Michael Alexander, founder and owner of Black Snake Productions. My passion for wildlife began when I was a child. I would find garden skinks, tree frogs and blue-tongue lizards in the garden, and watch microbats and possums from my bedroom window in the evening.
I remember the exact moment when, as an 11-year-old, I declared to my parents, “I’m going to work with wildlife.”
My constant desire to learn more about Australian wildlife led me to seek out some of Victoria’s most experienced reptile and wildlife experts, who mentored me throughout my high school years. Continuing with this drive to learn, I began volunteering at Healesville Sanctuary, where I completed more than 2,000 hours of volunteer work over several years. I then went on to study animal care and horticulture.
These experiences led me to work at facilities such as the Australian Reptile Park and Melbourne Zoo, as well as with other wildlife parks as a consultant. I have also served as a committee member of the Victorian Herpetological Society.
Throughout all these years, a few of my pets—who are very much part of the family—have joined me on my adventures. These include Fredo, the green tree frog I received in 1997, and Bubbles, the water python who came to live with me in 2000. You can still meet my two oldest buddies at some of our shows today.
My passion has also led to a special interest in some of Australia’s most venomous, yet often least understood, animals: snakes and spiders. Black Snake Productions now specialises in venomous snake and spider safety, delivering some of Victoria’s leading workplace safety programs involving venomous wildlife.

Hi, I’m Ebony, co-owner of Black Snake Productions and Mike’s better half!
I have always had a deep passion for animals. As a child, I collected insects and arachnids to create my own little invertebrate sanctuary in my bedroom, and I was forever rescuing animals that I believed needed help.
One memorable rescue involved a mouse I found swimming in our pool. As it turned out, she was pregnant, escaped into the house, and eventually led to a small family of pet mice living beneath our fridge for much of my childhood!
My love of animals and determination to care for them continued into adulthood. I became a veterinary nurse, wildlife carer, and rescuer, while also taking in abused and neglected dogs to rehabilitate them and help find them safe, loving forever homes. At one stage, I was caring for 12 dogs at once, each receiving the care and attention they deserved.
Today, I help run Black Snake Productions and oversee the care and wellbeing of the animals at our private zoo. You may occasionally see me at festivals and larger events, although much of my work happens behind the scenes, managing the day-to-day running of our home, zoo, and family business.
My favourite animals are our beautiful fruit bats. Fruit bats, including flying-foxes, are among Australia’s most misunderstood native animals. Much like our small but vital pollinators, the bees, they play an essential role in maintaining healthy ecosystems through pollination and seed dispersal.
